It’s been a rollercoaster of a 2025. While things have been very challenging on a personal level (as evidenced from my last post about my dog), things seem to really be trending positively with my professional life, as evidenced my the selection of my 2025 upcoming graphic novel, THE MANY MISFORTUNES OF EUGENIA WANG by the JLG (see below), and my invitation to the 2025 ALA Conference (from a previous newsletter). I really appreciate everyone’s kind words of support on both counts. You’ve all been quite spectacular to me.
The Many Misfortunes of Eugenia Wang
As I mentioned in my intro, the Junior Library Guild selected my book as a 2025 A Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection. What does it mean? That was a good question. I’d seen other books receive this honor, but to be honest, I wasn’t precisely sure what it meant. I do know it was a prestigious honor. So, I looked it up. What it means is my book will go out in a box to over 3000 subscribing libraries! It’s like a mystery box for librarians (although not as much of a mystery in this case, since they announce them)!
Oh, and librarians, book buyers, and reviewers, my advance reader copy (ARC) of my book is officially available for request on Edelweiss!
If you haven’t already pre-ordered my book or requested it from your library, make sure you do so so you can judge for yourself whether the JLG knew what they were talking about!
Upcoming Events
This Saturday, March 22nd at 1-2 pm, I’ll be doing a reading and interactive monster drawing demo featuring my NEW 4th edition of THERE’S A ZOMBIE IN THE BASEMENT, and signing copies of my book at Second Star To The Right Children’s Books’s March of the Zombies event. Come by and chat me up about my school author visits!
I’m not scheduled to be at any other free public events in the near future, but I’ll be headed to Salem, MA at the end of March to work on a SECRET project that I hope I can announce soon!
Finally, my book launch event date has been set, Thursday, October 9th at the Boulder Bookstore at 6:30 pm. More details will follow along with reservation links as soon as I have them.
NEW: Cover Art Portfolio
I’m excited to launch a new section on my website for my growing cover art portfolio, which currently contains a mix of fan art covers and covers from published books I’ve done. Check it out here. If you’re looking to have me illustrate a cover, reach out to Ann Rose, my amazing literary agent at The Tobias Literary Agency (ann (at) thetobiasagency (dot) com).
New Apparel and Merch!
Last Friday, I created this tee-shirt for my Tee Public shop ($7 off for the next 7 hours — only $16) with my homeschool art class, and it seemed to really get a lot of positive reaction on social media. I'm letting my VOTING patrons help me pick my next message if you'd like to join in at http://tiny.cc/stanteevote1.
The Last Man on Earth
As I mentioned last month, I’ve begun alternating this strip with my EUpoLOGIES comic each Saturday. This is the one that ran since my last newsletter. You can visit the growing archive for this strip at https://www.stanyan.me/comic-strip/lmoe, and if you really like something, click on my TeePublic link at the bottom of the page.
Eupologies
Find the weekly archives at eupologies.com, and if you really like something, click on my TeePublic link at the bottom of the page.
Peter Cadaver Classics

If you've been following my Peter Cadaver strip on social media, you probably know that I'm on a bit of a hiatus and have been doing reruns. I hope I can get back to producing these weekly again soon, but I may have some overlapping deadlines that may make that difficult. In the meantime, feel free to visit the archive at salemcharteracademy.com.
Cuddlefish Academy
It’s been since December since I’ve done a free 3-minute portfolio review for anyone. This one is for Rosie Edwards. If you’d like a chance to get one from me, drop your link in the comments, or for a deeper dive review, check out my coaching and see my classes here.
Caricatures
I’m still closed to studio commissions, but I have continued to do live gigs, so, you can still hire me to draw for your event at zombicatures.com.
What have I been reading?
I’m going to be regularly adding this section to my newsletter to highlight my favorite reads of the month, but I’m not soliciting books for review, so PLEASE don’t send me your book.
Thanks for your continued support! You're helping my dreams happen!
The cover of The Many Misfortunes of Eugenia Wang looks excellent!
